“If you don’t believe in love at first sight – you’ve been using the wrong tanning product”
There are so many tanning products available now a days, so it can be a challenge to find what is right for you. I myself have tried a whole lot of tanning products and today I want to share some tips on how to apply fake tan, from one of my favorite tanning products – Loving Tan.
Shave – at least 24 hrs before tanning. When shaving, some may experience “Pore Gaping” on the legs. If you apply tanning products within 24 hrs or less, the opened pores can fill with excess products, leaving brown tint “ink dots” all over the legs / within every hair follicle. Normally the pore will close back tight within 24-48 hrs.
Exfoliate – You need get rid of all the dry, flakey dead skin cells. If you fail to exfoliate properly, then you will end up with an uneven tan with streaks and dark patches. I recommend that you exfoliate the day before you apply fake tan. I use the Tan Removing & Skin Polishing Glove to exfoliate my skin. I also use it when I need to remove my tan. With only soapy water and the glove, it is so easy to remove the tan.
Moisturize – use a small amount of moisturizer all over your body before applying fake tan. This will help the tan to last longer. You can also apply a little bit more of moisturizer on your hands, feet, elbows and knees, since the skin is thicker and slightly drier in those areas. Use an oil-free moisturizer.
Apply the fake tan – wait a few minutes until the moisturizer is completely dry. Now you are ready to apply your tan. Loving Tan gives you an instant color, so it is important to protect your hands. I recommend that you use the Deluxe Self Tanning Applicator Mitt from Loving Tan, but any mitt will do. For the perfect bronzer application, apply a generous amount of mousse (approximately two pumps) to the mitt and work in sections quickly and in circular motions, then lightly pat over the area with the mitt to even out the bronzer. Start at your ankles and work your way up to your shoulders to prevent any weird marks when you bend over, and save your arms and hands for last.
Don’t worry if your bronzer is not 100% even when your first put it on. The instant color you get from Loving Tan is a color guide to help see where you have applied the tan and if you are missing any areas. Once the bronzer is rinsed off the tan will be perfect.

Rinse – the longer you leave the mousse on before showering, the darker the tan will develop. Avoid soap/body wash when rinsing off the bronzer and gently pat your skin dry.
After tanning – Use a moisturizer daily to prolong your tan and avoid swimming pools and excessive sweating.
Development times are as follows:
– Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse (Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark) series: 6-8 hrs (8 hrs recommended) and
– Loving Tan 2 Hr Express (Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark) series: 2 hrs only.
